Sembrava l’ennesimo social network, il nuovo modo per far sentire persino i millennial antiquati. Una nuova vetrina del sé, un nuovo palcoscenico per il narcisismo digitale. E invece. Tik Tok forse è partito così ma sta diventando qualcosa di molto diverso.
Faccio Mea Culpa: all’inizio anche io, 30enne che si vanta di capirne di società e costume, ho pensato fosse un giochino, nulla di più. Caruccio, impari i balletti e li condividi ma non mi interessa, il mio disagio nella mancanza di coordinazione lo riservo a qualche serata liberatoria tra amici e non.
Ho avuto l’occasione di intervistare alcuni TikToker famosi italiani, scoprendo che si chiamano Muser, e che dietro quei video cosi spensierati c’è molto lavoro, molta intelligenza (chi più chi meno) e soprattutto un grande mercato. “La scoperta dell’acqua calda” dirà qualcuno, ma in fondo aveva il suo lato interessante: peccato che poi, a vedere i contenuti, questo interesse spariva.
Eppure, scrolla che ti scrolla, alcune canzoncine sono finite nella mia playlist e, soprattutto, ho avuto una nuovissima percezione dello scorrere del tempo che nemmeno durante la visione di Interstellar. Come è possibile che siano passate 3 ore? cosa ho guardato a parte animali che inciampano e adolescenti che ammiccano al mio schermo? Vergogna, mi sento “vecchia”, chiudo e non voglio pensarci mai più. Per fortuna su Instagram molti influencer che amo, più o meno della mia età, manifestavano di non capirci nulla. Ok tutto a posto, posso convivere con questa deficienza digito-culturale.
Poi mi sono accorta che su TikTok stavano arrivando anche i profili di media di un certo spessore: The Washington Post, NBC News, giusto per citarne un paio.
E non sono stati solo i giornalisti ad accorgersi che qualcosa stava cambiando. Se n’è accorto il mondo della politica. Guardiamo ai nostri confini: ci hanno provato in molti, da Giorgia Meloni che però ha velocemente fatto un passo indietro a – e soprattutto- Matteo Salvini, che ha tentato di rendersi simpatico ai più giovani (malamente, visto che sotto ogni video le invocazioni ad una sua sparizione dal social diventano imbarazzanti persino per chi non lo sostiene). Aveva cominciato con video d contenuto “politico” ma è velocemente passato a gattini, balletti, mashup, karaoke, persino scenette comico-romantiche con la sua Francesca Verdini.
Altrove invece, l’arma politica di TikTok trascende da queste scenette acchiappaclick. Ed ecco che allora la potenza di TikTok arriva chiara, netta e spiazzante. Partiamo da Feroza Adid che durante i suoi tutorial di make up ha denunciato la persecuzione etnica e religiosa dei musulmani uiguri in Cina. «E ora puoi usare il telefonino per informarti su quello che i cinesi stanno facendo alla minoranza dei musulmani Uiguri, chiudendoli in campi di concentramento e di detenzione forzata» diceva. Così, tra un lucidalabbra e un po’ di mascara è riuscita ad aggirare (temporaneamente) la censura di Pechino, sensibilizzando i suoi giovanissimi follower che, volenti o nolenti, si sono trovati tra le mani il grande potere dell’informazione.
Poi c’è stato anche Alex Jackson che, con i video in cui mima di sparare agli slogan di Boris Johnson, invitava i giovani britannici a votare Labour. E poi c’è l’ambiente, il cambiamento climatico, la tutela dell’ecosistema che regnano sovrani nell’attivismo giovanile e quindi anche su TikTok. E con le recenti mobilitazioni del movimento #BlackLivesMatter ne abbiamo avuto la conferma: le manifestazioni, le iniziative, persino i dettagli organizzativi e di coordinamento su slogan e cartelloni avvenivano su TikTok.
Ma TikTok non è potente solo per i contenuti potenzialmente “da bomba”. Sicuramente abbiamo avuto l’ulteriore conferma che non è vero che i giovani non si interessano di politica e di attivismo, ma solo che lo fanno in modi e con strumenti nuovi e innovativi.
Ma TikTok, dicevamo, è potente anche sotto altri punti di vista: è infatti l’app cinese più popolare di sempre. Ed ecco subentrare le motivazioni geopolitiche. Non a caso Mike Pompeo ha recentemente dichiarato di star valutando il ban perché «l’app consegna informazioni private degli utenti al Partito comunista cinese». Anymous ha sconsigliato di scaricarla (rimanendo chiaramente inascoltato durante il lockdown dove i download globali hanno raggiunto la quota 200 milioni per il primo trimestre del 2020) definendo l’app come «un malware gestito dal governo cinese nell’ambito di un’operazione di sorveglianza di massa»
La buona notizia è che per godere dei contenuti di TokTok non serve necessariamente aprire un profilo: un escamotage vincente che incontra il favore non solo dei voyeurs, ma anche dei timidi e di chi non riuscirebbe mai a resistere alla tentazione di pubblicare un video balletto (tanto lo fanno tutti) salvo poi pentirsene una volta arrivato in ufficio.
La cattiva notizia è che non potete più ignorarlo.
